SEO FOR BLOGGERS.

Search engine optimization is an important topic that can easily go wrong.

This definitely puzzled me! I never knew exactly what to do, where to put keywords, or how long my posts should be.

Do you look familiar?

It’s hard to know how crazy you must be with SEO. So if you just hear the word get confused and overwhelmed, don’t worry. I will resolve any confusion on this right now!

For starters, on-page SEO is just a fancy way of saying that we create content that people want to read.

Let’s edit it so more people can find it.

I like to consider it in two parts:

Tech-savvy SEO – Great Content Creation
Semi-technical SEO: customizing your content for search engines.
Don’t worry, semi-tech isn’t entirely technical. If you are absolutely determined to go crazy for search engine optimization, focus on the non-technical part. After all, you are in the content industry. 🙂

Luckily for you, content is the name of the game for Google and the other search engines. Every time you write an epic article, create something that will work as an employee for your company. Plus, you can always go back and make it even more SEO-friendly later on.

My take on SEO, algorithms, indexing .

If you are curious about what SEO really means I will give it a try but understand I only know what I need to know. Anything more than that and my creative brain becomes dizzy. Here we go…

Suppose Jane decides she’s done with skinny jeans and wants “faded flare” jeans. You search for it and wait for Google to crawl different websites and show you the jeans you want.

Now, it turns out you’re a fashion blogger and you know a thing or two about faded flare jeans. And you want Google to show your blog to Jane.

So how do you do this? Basically, you take every chance you have to slap Google on the shoulder and say, “Hey, this site is all about used jeans.”

We will come back to this in more detail in the semi-technical part.

First of all, we’re going to get into the non-tech part because it will be something intuitive and easy to do. This is the perfect place to start. The steps I am sharing here are interrelated which means that the first step naturally blends into the second and so on. I structure it this way so that you understand what to prioritize when it comes to SEO.

Let’s take a look at my top SEO tips for bloggers.

1. Write great content.

Yes, I repeat. Creating quality content should be the hallmark of your SEO strategy. Write content that appeals to your readers. Make every message epic. Put your heart and soul to help your audience, and I’m sure you already do. So we can check the box on this great blogger.

If you’re writing great content, check the box for several other things at once:

Extensive and well written content
Includes multimedia: images, photographs, video
Generally text-based
If you forget about them and only focus on writing great content, you will probably tackle them without realizing it. What I mean by this is that you write SEO content with very little effort.

Let me explain how this is the case:

Long enough: First of all, it will take you a while to create a really valuable article, and eventually I mean words. So there your message will be quite long.
Well written: how do you make a great article without writing it well? You do not. Because it won’t happen.
Multimedia: Since you are most interested in creating great content, record multimedia whenever you can. Things like videos, pictures, images … anything you can think of to make it easier for people to process your message.
Text-based: the latter is clear. Blogging = writing = text-based. Done and done.

What about SEO optimized content?

Do you see how concentrating on one thing took care of all the others? I point this out because sometimes we get caught up in the details and forget the big picture. Let’s go ahead and write some remarkable and epic articles.

I have one more thing to say before I continue: the most important ingredient in creating really good content is you. I have worked with so many clients and brands over the years that they are a little crazy to “differentiate their brand.” What I think they lack, and what we can get from them, is that brands are built from within. Your brand starts with you.

Other bloggers have likely covered your topic. But that does not mean that it has nothing to add.

Maybe you are the best friend of your subject. Or maybe you’re going out on your first date. Either way, it’s the scoop readers want. They don’t need you to throw in the same content that they can find on 20 other blogs. They look to you to help them interpret and understand things. Make sure to imbue each post with your experience and perspective.

Okay, with that out of the way …

If you’re wondering how to make your articles even more valuable so that you can really change this whole “SEO for Blogger” strategy, there are a few things you can do.

I’m sure you understand your audience and have an editorial calendar full of blogging ideas. Still, we can all benefits from knowing more about our readers and audiance. This is where a little research can be your friend. It’s pretty easy to get into your audience’s mind if you have the right tools.

2. Social media.

Spend time hanging out on the same social media sites where your readers hang out. When you see widely shared posts, you know you’re right.

I have found Pinterest to be invaluable here. When I started my blog, my posts were a bit skewed which meant I circled my audience but didn’t get to the right place. I decided to spend some time looking at popular pins in my niche, to really try to figure out who my audience was and what they wanted / needed. I recommend to do this kind of research on Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter,Reddit etc.

3. BuzzSumo.

BuzzSumo is a powerful content analysis tool and research platform where you can find the most shared content on a topic, niche, niche or even an industry. Let’s say you’re looking for the “Photo Effects Tutorial” topic. You can see which content worked well and where it worked best: Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest.

The idea behind BuzzSumo is to find popular content and then beat it. Write something better, more epic, more detailed. Use more photos, better design, more points, you get the juice. But I digress because you already do :).

BuzzSumo is also useful if you need help figuring out where your audience is spending time. When you see posts related to your niche go viral on Twitter or Pinterest, you know that’s where your audience is. Check out this article to learn more about BuzzSumo.

4. Google Keyword Planner.

Let’s take a look at another way to search with Google’s free keyword research tool, the Keyword Planner. To let you know, this is a handy all-inclusive tool that will help you brainstorm different blogging ideas AND find keywords to include in your posts, which is one of those semi-things. techniques which I will talk about later.

For the non-technical part, the Keyword Planner helps you understand what terms people are searching for on Google. Let’s say you want to write an SEO article, but you don’t know which subtopic to focus on. You can use the keyword planner to get ideas.

What I like is that you collect hundreds of other ideas that you can use for future articles as well. So it’s not only a powerful keyword research tool, but also a great brainstorming tool.

5. Add the keyword to your post.

Time to take your message to the next level with keywords!

Let’s say you just used the Keyword Planner to find some keywords. The next step is to add them to your post.

For example:

This blog post is about SEO for bloggers so this is the keyword I’m going to use. And it really just means that I think you, as a blogger, are looking for that phrase.

Psstt … As a reminder, a keyword is not a word. It is a series of words grouped into a “key phrase”. If I had targeted SEO as a keyword instead of the blogger SEO keyword phrase, I probably would have featured on page 357 of Google.

Well, let’s continue …

So now that I have my keyword phrase, this is what I’m going to do next (and what you should be doing too). I’ll add it to my post in seven steps:

6. The blog title.

If you can only change one thing in your article, make it the title of your blog. Make sure to include your keyword and aim for 50 characters. A little more and Google will reduce it.

7.The meta description.

Meta descriptions are less about SEO and more about getting internet users’ attention in search results.
But they are still important! Add your keyword and keep the meta description around 160 characters. Google bold all of the keywords in your description to make them stand out.

8. Throughout the post itself.

Add the keyword to your intro and outro and browse the content multiple times. However, be careful not to overload your post with your keyword. Google does this trick.

If you’re using Yoast SEO, just follow the directions and you’ll be on your way.

9. Subheadings (H2 tags).

Headlines are your friends. They optimize your messages and make it easier for people to keep track of what they read.

If it makes sense, add the keyword, but don’t force it. For example, this is NOT to be done:

Blog Post # 4 Checklist: Add a Content Upgrade
Yes, I tried and paid the price (what did I know?). Google got it and quickly got me from page 1 to page 7. So be careful and only use the keyword if it feels natural and organic to you. However, limit it to just one subtitle.

There are plenty of other places you can put your keyword in.

10. Image alt text.

Yes, it’s true! People can find your content by searching for images.

So what images are we talking about? And what is the “old text”?

I will now clarify everything for you! There are two types of images:

The displayed image
Secondary images
The image presented is the main image of your blog and the one shared on social networks. Since you are an epic blogger, you probably have images in your post as well. These are secondary images.

Then the alt text … this is the text that will appear in place of an image when it cannot be loaded. It is also a question of Internet access.
Adding alt text to photos is first and foremost a principle of Internet access. Visually impaired users using screen readers are given an alt attribute to better understand an image on the page. ”

The bottom line is that Google takes alt text seriously, and so do we. In WordPress, you can find it here (while you’re at it, add your keyword to the image title):
If you want to be smarter, create your long and meaningful Pinterest alt text so that the description matches when people save your Pin.

Update: Some experts say the alt text should describe the image and that’s it. They claim that other text pin descriptions can do your SEO more harm than good. If you want, you can use Social Warfare or Tasty Pins to separate the pin descriptions from the alt text.

Either way, you just need to know that your target keyword is in the alt text of the displayed image. Use related keywords for alt text in secondary images.

11.  Image names.

The same applies to image names. All of the images I mentioned above must have your keyword in the name. What I like to do is use the blog post title for the name of the featured image. And for secondary images, I use different variations of my related keywords.

For example, the alternate text for the main image of my post could look like this:

And my image name would be:

blogger-plugins-to-skyrocket-your-blog.jpg

12. In the post URL.

We are almost there. The last place you want to put your keyword is your post URL (for WordPress, this would be your permalink).
See how the URL for my SEO blogger post is “factorss.com/seo-for-bloggers/” instead of a weird string of numbers like “factorss.com/seo-for-bloggers/”. B. “factorss.com/2018/5/6/” or even “factorss.com/p25”? This is what yours should look like.

Note: If you need to change your URL after your post is published, use this redirect plugin to redirect people to your post’s new homepage instead of a page that was not found.

 13.Install the Yoast SEO plugin.

Fortunately, you don’t just have to memorize all of these SEO improvements! If you use WordPress, the Yoast SEO plugin is a must and is at the top of my list of plugins for bloggers.

Once installed, a section will appear below the editing window where you can enter your keyword, edit the SEO title, and write a meta description.
From there, the Yoast plugin gives you a checklist of things to do, including keyword prompts for your content, permalinks, images, headings, and other places we’ve covered. over. You know Yoast is happy when you scroll to the publish area (top right) and see the green “SEO Good” icon.

14. Link to related blog posts.

The links to your website are good! They send signals to Google that your content is popular and tell them to pay more attention to your website.

The problem is, it can be difficult to manage external links (from other websites to yours). Do you know what you can control?

Internal links.

These are the ones that link your article to the associated blog posts on your website. They help Google understand what your post is about, make you popular, and increase your average visit time. This is all good, mate!

15. Check your site speed.

Google focuses on user experience and knows that people calm down when websites load slowly. Therefore, website speed is a HUGE ranking factor.

You can even be penalized for having a slow website. This means that your posts are not ranking as well as they could be.

Use Gtmetrix, Pingdom, or Google Pagespeed Insights to check your website’s loading speed. Aim within 3 seconds.

What should you do if your website is performing slowly?

Good question!

Website speed can get pretty technical, but you can make sure your images are optimized and compressed. I am using TinyPNG to reduce the file size of all my images and highly recommend trying it out.

It’s super easy to use. Simply upload your photo and upload the compressed version. Sometimes your images are compressed a lot, sometimes just a little. Every little detail counts.

16.Social media.

It’s true that social media doesn’t have much to do with on-page SEO. But I still throw it here!

I have found that social media is a huge source of traffic. So don’t worry, if you don’t have social media you may want to get started. You will get more traffic from Google and social networks. You are likely to receive indirect traffic as more and more people connect to your content on social media. It’s a win for everyone in my book.
